In a glaring example of police highhandedness, Inspector-in-Charge of Boudh police station Pritimanjari Garanayak has been accused of torturing a couple of Sarsara village on Wednesday midnight.
Sources said Rabindra Mallick and his wife Padmini have lodged a written complaint with the Boudh district SP against IIC Garnayak demanding action against her for allegedly subjecting them to third-degree torture at the police station.
As per the allegations, the IIC took the couple to the police station and thrashed them mercilessly. Their only fault was they could not provide information about an accused against whom a warrant was issued and the police was on the lookout for.
“Police asked us whether we know someone from Bagapada village. When we said no, they attacked us with lathis and my wife was thrashed mercilessly. She is unable to walk now,” said Rabindra.
later, Padmini was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in a critical condition.
However, Boudh SP Sudhanshu Sekhar Mishra denied of receiving any complaint on the issue. Mishra said, “I have not received any such complaint. If any allegations come, then the department will take necessary action against whosoever is found responsible.”
