The caseloads of Covid patients while registered a substantial growth in the district, it is alleged that the death toll due to virus too was mounting but was underreported by the district administration.
Reports said that in last few days at least 8-10 bodies of the Covid patients were cremated daily in the designated cremation ground at Nuniajodi. Since April this year while over 100 bodies have been cremated yet officially the death figure attributed to Covid of the district is pegged at only four. Reports added that 102 bodies have been cremated in the cremation ground and in last few days the number registered a big spike. During the first wave last year, although 230 deaths occurred due to
the Covid yet the figure was shown as 98 by the district administration. Apprehending scarcity of space for cremation and more casualties in future, the district administration has prepared another five grounds in and around the town to dispose of Covid bodies. In the meanwhile, there have allegations that the Covid patients are not duly attended. The oxygen dependent patients while are given oxygen by the hospital attendants, their conditions are not monitored. Even after exhaust of the oxygen, the replacement is not done promptly by the attendants. And by the time the filled cylinder is positioned the patient goes critical, alleged attendants of many deceased Covid patients.
Since the attendants of the patients are not allowed to go to the wardand they are not able to know the actual position of their patients,there is a growing demand for recording of the treatment through CCTvs.
