Cops send beggars to Ruchika Helpline

PNS

In a special drive to curb the increasing number of beggars on the city’s streets and also to ensure quality life for them, the police on Wednesday rescued at least 12 beggars, including aged ones, and sent them to a shelter home.

According to the Capital police station IIC MR Garanaik, the beggars were rescued from AG Square and Rajmahal Square. “We have sent them to Ruchika Helpline where they will get basic minimum facilities like, food, shelter and clothes,” said the IIC, adding that the drive will continue in his jurisdiction for next few days.

The officer also stated that they would also ensure their rehabilitation and reunite them with their families. The State Government has over the years done little to curb the menace while failing to provide the basic necessities of food, shelter and clothes to homeless.
