'Cops killed Chinnabai in guise of encounter'

PNS

CPI(Maoist) Malkangiri division secretary Punam Chand in a letter to the media on Wednesday demanded a probe into Maoist commander Chinnabai’s death.

Chand alleged the Malkangiri police tortured the Red rebel in their custody for five days following his surrender and then killed him in the Kapatuti forest on June 3.

He alleged that Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Mitrabhanu Mahapatra along with former Maoist leader Sukadeba tortured Chinnabai alias Nagesh Rao after he laid down arms.

The letter further mentioned Chinnabai was murdered by the district police in the forest on Ganjeimala hills and the cops claimed that he was killed in an encounter. Reacting to the letter, the Malkangiri SP said Chand’s claim is a regular tactics of Maoists and there is nothing new in it.
