Even if 72 hours elapsed after a miscreant stabbed a First Year History girl student in the Berhampur University campus and fled, police have failed to arrest the accused by Tuesday evening.
The accused was identified as Bikram Keshari Palai of Aaidipur village on the outskirts of Khallikote town. The Gopalpur police have formed a special squad to nab Palai.
The squad raided his village and questioned his family members but has failed to trace the offender. The victim girl student is now at home and is in a stable condition, informed police.
From the preliminary investigation, the cops have found that a discussion was held between two families of Palai and the victim about marriage, but the victim’s family said they would take a decision only after the completion of her studies. Subsequently, the two families reportedly cancel the marriage proposal.
However, Palai was obstinate to marry her and took this step, informed police.
Meanwhile, inmates of the girl’s hostel have reportedly met the Vice-Chancellor seeking security. The VC has assured them of all security measures, sources said.
