Subhendu Behera, former ASI of the Kaptipada police station in Mayurbhanj district, was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly molesting a married woman.
Behera was earlier transferred to the Baripada police headquarters after the woman levelled the allegations against him. The victim had held a dharna before Naveen Niwas in Bhubaneswar on September 16 seeking justice.
“ASI Suvendu Behera barged into our house on May 12 around 1.30 am and molested me while I was sleeping in my room. I raised an alarm following which my family members woke up. Behera then tried to flee the spot and got hit on his head with the grill, and became unconscious,” said the woman. We informed the IIC of the police station regarding the incident after which some policemen reached our house and rescued Behera,” the woman had said.
“Later in the night around 3 am, my husband was taken into police custody and detained without any justified reason. Other members of my family were also detained and tortured by cops at the police station,” she alleged.
