Cop-fraudster nexus: Cong demands judicial probe

PNS

Expressing extreme frustration over the current law and order situation in Cuttack and, more particularly, over the conduct of some police officers, Congress leaders of the city on Friday submitted a memorandum to the State DGP seeking a judicial inquiry into the alleged unholy nexus between police inspectors of the city and fraudsters, who have duped several prospective entrepreneurs.

A delegation led by city Congress chief Md Moqim along with PCC vice-president Suresh Mohapatra met the DGP and urged him to keep the five tainted senior police inspectors "off duty" till the inquiry against them is over. In the memorandum to the DGP, they demanded stringent and exemplary punishment against the erring police inspectors.

Following allegations levelled by the victims of the fraud that these police inspectors were protecting the fraudsters and several photographs in media which showed the accused fraudsters are having gala time with the cops, Twin City Commissioner of Police YB Khurania on Thursday had announced that Cuttack DCP Sanjib Arora would investigate into the allegations.

Meanwhile, no written order on such investigation from the office of the police commissioner reached the office of the city DCP here till Friday evening, sources said.
