A contractor was killed over a suspected financial dispute in Ekatali under the Jharsuguda police station in the district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Fasidul Rehman (32), a native of Murshidabad in West Bengal. On informed about the incident, police along with forensic team reached the spot and launched an investigation.
Police said Rehman along with seven labourers was residing at the rented house in Ekatali. While five labourers had left the place, two others were residing with Rehman.
A heated altercation had ensued between the labourers and the contractor over money matters which might have led to the brutal murder, police said.
Police have seized the body and sent it to the local hospital for post-mortem.
