It seems police excess has become a daily affair at Kendrapara Town police station. In a latest incident an ASI allegedly assaulted a detainee, who was the husband of a woman constable, inside the police station and injured him. As a result, the injured victim filed a petition at SDJM court here on Monday.
Sources said, Kailash Chandra Behera (36) of Badabaranga filed petition at the SDJM court on Monday against ASI Gobinda Chandra Behera, alleging that the rowdy police official allegedly assaulted him without any reason after bringing him and one of his friend to the police station.
As per the petition, Kailash alleged that while on May 5 last he and his friend, Mali alias Malay Ranjan Mohanty, were waiting near Ichhapur High School at about 8 pm for the return of his wife, Ranjita Moharana , from the office, at that time a police van led by ASI Gobinda Chandra Behera reached at the spot and started abusing them with slang language by blaming them that they were standing for committing theft in the locality.
later, he and his friend were forcibly put in police van and brought them to town police station. later, ASI Behera allegedly assaulted him inhumanly with a lathi inside the police station. As a result, he sustained multiple injuries on his head and body and lost his consciousness. Though his wife urged the ASI not to beat him, but ASI Behera allegedly directed his wife and other relatives to leave the police station verandah.
