Congress questions school opening move

PNS

While welcoming the State Government’s decision to start classroom teaching for the students of Classes-X and XII, the  Congress on Saturday feared that while a majority section of teaching and nonteaching staffs have not been vaccinated against Covid, the children may not be safe.

Party State spokesperson Sudarsan Das and NSUI State president Yashir Nawaj said that when 60% of the school staffs are vaccinated with the first dose and 40% with the second dose, full protection from the virus is not possible.

In the matter of online education, they said the Schools and Mass Education Minister himself has admitted that still only 32% students are availing online education. The internet reach is very low in the State. So, it is not possible to provide online teaching for every student.

Das said the Government’s move for merger of schools is a hoax. The Government has already merged 7,000 schools out of a targeted 14,000 schools. This is not merger; rather, it’s is closure of schools and this decision goes against the Right to Education Act.
