Normal life was badly hit as the Congress-called indefinite Malkangiri Bandh over water and electricity supply issues entered the second day on Wednesday.
Even though the district Collector held a meeting with the agitators, no outcome was reached. Quite like on Tuesday, the Congress supporters picketed at various places of Malkangiri district to enforce the bandh. Hundreds of women carried earthen pots over their heads in a procession to the Collector’s office.
Communication and transport services were partly hit in the district headquarters town because of the demonstrations. Even though there were no reports of violence so far, security measures were been beefed up to avoid any untoward incident. It may be noted that Congress supporters led by former Nabarangpur MP Pradip Majhi have started the indefinite bandh protesting against water and electricity supply problems in the district. The agitators had cut off the water supply to the residence of the Collector to pressurise the administration to fulfil their demands.
