Congress corporators sat on a dharna at the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) Council meeting demanding immediate calling of tenders for development works and to stop the biometrics system of the scavengers.
The BMC Council meet on Tuesday was presided over by BMC Mayor K Madhavi in which discussions were held on three important topics of a seven-point agenda scheduled debate as the Congress members started their stir over different issues.

He also said six ponds in the city would be renovated; and the maintenance work of the different toilets in the city would be given to an organisation. Congress Corporator B Srinivas Rao questioned why tenders are not being invited for the developmental works worth Rs 50 lakh and above, which are undertaken in wards.
later, the BMC Commissioner assured the Congress members that steps would be taken for inviting tenders. Congress Corporators Ashok Sukla and Biren Patnaik pointed out that the Rajiv Awas Yojna (RAY) and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) are moving at a snail’s pace.
Sukla also alleged that the Congress Corporators are being neglected by the BMC employees by not sharing with them about execution of various schemes.
Among others, Brahmapur MlA Dr Ramesh Chandra Chaupatnaik, BMC Deputy Commissioner Sourendra Routray and Deputy Mayor Jyostna Nayak were present.
