The main Opposition Congress is set to boycott the customary Governor’s address in the inaugural session of the House highlighting the all round failure of the BJD Government and its corruption. Governor SC Jamir would address the Assembly for the first time after assuming the office.
“The Governor would read out only the speech prepared by the State Government, which has failed to fulfil its promises given during its three terms,” said Congress Chief Whip Prasad Harichandan indicating that the party would boycott of the Governor’s address. “We would react the moment the booklet containing the address is tabled in the House,” Harichandan clarified after the Congress legislature Party meeting.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh in the presence of Pradesh Congress Committee chief Jayadev Jena and 14 of its 27 members.
Harichandan said that since the Justice Shah Commission had exposed the BJD Government’s involvement in the multi crore mining scam in the State, his party would raise the issue in the House for discussion and would demand CBI probe. Similarly, as the Supreme Court had disapproved of Vigilance inquiry into to multi crore chit fund scam, the members would also demand CBI probe to unearth the alleged involvement of ruling party members in the scam, he said. Harichandan also said that to ensure a united fight against the corrupt BJD Government in the House, the leader of Opposition had issued whip on the members to remain present during the session in the House. This will also be applicable for the members to be present during the Rajya Sabha elections on February 7 as the party had fielded its official candidate Ranjib Biswal, he said.
