The Pradesh Congress Cooperative Committee (PCCC) chairman Gurupada Nanda on Tuesday reacted sharply to a decision of the Cabinet to amend the Odisha Co-operative Act, 1962 and urged the Government to immediately withdraw the decision.
He threatened that the Congress would take to streets across the State with lovers of cooperatives, if the Government does not budge.
Nanda alleged that now the State Government wants to bring all co-operative societies under its control by amending the Self Help Co–operative Act, 2001, which had been implemented in the State with a lot of difficulties. Around 1,634 co-operative societies of the State would be affected due to the amendment in the Act, Nanda said.
