The Question Hour of the State Assembly could not be transacted due to protests by Opposition Congress members for the consecutive second against the Speaker’s refusal for a debate on an adjournment motion relating to the issue of Special Category State Status for Odisha.

The Congress members’ protest action forced Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat to adjourn the House two minutes after it assembled for the day at 10.30 am.

As the Question Hour began, leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh wanted to know the fate of the adjournment notice given on Tuesday and demanded that the motion be admitted for discussion.

The Speaker did not pay any heed to Singh’s plea and, instead, asked Revenue Minister SN Patro to reply to the first question of the day.

Protesting the Speaker’s act, the Congress members rushed into the Well of the House demanding admission of the adjournment motion and suspension of all other businesses.

They shouted anti-Government slogans. The Speaker adjourned the House at 10.32 am till the end of the Question Hour, 11.30 am. However during Zero Hour, normalcy returned to the House, which took up the notice of the resolution for removal of the Speaker from his office.
