Former Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandan on Tuesday severely criticised the State Government over the incidence of one Kabir Bhoi carrying his ailing wife Sukanti on a trolley 90 km from Satyabdi block’s Dasbidyadharpur to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack and the latter’s death due to delay in treatment.
“The incident has brought the inefficiency of the Health and Family Welfare Department to the fore and it is just a sample of weak health service system in the State,” said Harichandan at a Press meet here.
Harichandan demanded that the Government provide a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the family of the deceased soon.
Besides, he demanded that the Health and Family Welfare Department Additional Chief Secretary should facilitate conduct of a high-level investigation into the matter and ensure that all those responsible for non-availability of an 108-Ambulance to Sukanti be punished. He said the Congress would take to the streets on the issue of weak health service system.
