The development work in Rourkela has remained standstill.

For last four years, the Rourkela Municipal Corporation is defunct since no election could take place.

Similarly, the work of the Rourkela Development Authority is confined to collecting shop rent. Even though the Sarba Khyama Yojana has been implemented in Bhubaneswar and Brahmapur, but it is yet to start in Rourkela.

While taking charge as the Chairman of RDA Sarada Nayak had declared for construction of 20,000 residential houses. But now it appears to be a false commitment. The outside State people are getting job in Rourkela modernisation projects while the local employment exchange has become confined to sign board. While laying foundation stone of 2nd Brahmani bridge on July 21, 2017, the Union Road and Surface Minister had declared that the construction work will start within 15

days, but that remained in assurance only, alleged DCC, Rourkela.

Similarly it is alleged by the party that without implementing the Prime Minister Awas Yojana scheme, the slum dwellers are forcefully evicted. While the corruption in the Civil Supply Department is rampant, thousands of beneficiaries are still deprived of getting the benefits under the Food Security Act.

Undeclared power cut by the Wesco people has become a concern for all sections of people. So to protest against the apathy of both the Union and State Governments, the Congress party will start a Jana Adhikar Abhiyan from November 20. This was decided in a meeting held under the chairmanship of DCC, Rourkela president Biren Senapaty.

It was also decided that during the seven-day protest abhiyan, the public will be made aware about the failure of the BJD and BJP to protect the interest of the common people.

Among others, former MlA Pravat Mohapatra, senior leaders Ramananda Srichandan, Debabrat Bihari, Santosh Biswal, Harsh Chandra Pani, Nihar Das, Girija Shankar Mishra, Gajendra Tanty, Santosh Tanty, Somanath Panda, Saroj Jena and Sankar Agarwal participated.
