Upping the ante against BJD leader and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena over his alleged involvement in a sex scandal and suspicious death of an engineering student, the Congress on Thursday launched an indefinite dharna and demonstration in front of the BMC office here.
Many senior leaders, including PCC president Prasad Harichandan, sat in the dharna and said the demonstration would continue until the Mayor resigns for a fair probe into the sensational case. Earlier on Wednesday,
Harichandan had questioned the integrity of the State police and demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
“Today we also reiterate our demand for Mayor’s resignation and a CBI probe. The protest will continue until our genuine demands are not addressed,” said Harichandan.
However, tension gripped the dharna venue as the BMC parked two cattle catching vehicle in front of its office to sabotage the protest of the Congress workers. later, the protestors removed the vehicles.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) activists also held demonstration demanding the ouster of the controversial Mayor. The party too demanded a free and fair probe into the case.
AAP leader Bhardwaj Mishra said, “We demand Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to order an immediate judicial inquiry into the sex video scandal and the murder of an engineering student. Till the end of the probe, Mayor Jena should be kept out from the coveted post.”
