Cong demands SIT probe into OSSC scam

PNS

The Congress on Saturday demanded an SIT probe into the Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC) job scam, involving Personnel Secretary of a Member of the Commission.

In a Press conference, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Narasingha Mishra alleged that the time is to bring out the truth and take exemplary action against the culprits involved in the scam.

Mishra said after being caught by the Vigilance sleuths, Personal Secretary of an OSSC Member, Biranchi Sahu who was playing with the future of the lakhs of talented students and allegedly collected huge amount of money for selection of the unworthy ones for different jobs, the State Government was mum for a few days and upon media pressure, took action against him on August 2, by first suspending him and then forcing him to take compulsory retirement.

“By this action, the State Government bypassed the departmental proceeding against him and indirectly helped him. The intention of the Government is clear; it is to shield the other officials who might be involved and save the face of the Government,” Mishra said.

The Government has also violated a Supreme Court order on the compulsory retirement against Sahu, he stated.

“It was with a good intention to ensure transparency in the Government recruitments that the State Government had established the OSSC, but the present Government has acted in such a way that the very purpose is defeated. It has turned the OSSC a hub of corruption and malpractice,” lamented Mishra.
