The Congress on Saturday termed the change in the name of the greatest sporting honour of India, Rajiv Gnadhi Khelratna Award, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an act of political intolerance. It said that while the party in power at the Centre has nothing to start new, it is busy changing names of schemes and policies started by the Congress.
“You can omit his name from the title of the award, but you will not be able to omit his (Rajiv Gandhi’s) name and contributions which are deeply manifest in the nook and corners of India. Rajiv Gandhi was an iconic figure for the youths of the country and a builder of the modern India. With all your attempts, you will not be able to obliterate his ideals from the minds of people,” said a senior Congress leader.
A meeting was held here at the Congress Bhawan here to discuss the issue under the chairmanship of former Minister Ganeswar Behera and party leaders condemned the act of the Modi Government.
