Vehicular movement in the Chandaka route in the city was disrupted for at least four hours on Saturday as hundreds of Congress workers of Jatni Assembly Committee blocked NH-5 near the Chandaka Square demanding City Bus service to the Chandaka area and its vicinity and repair of the Chandaka-Nuagaon road.
led by Jatni Assembly Committee president Biraja Prasad Samantaray and senior leader Surseh Routray, the protestors slammed the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation for not providing basic facilities to the denizens of Chandaka. “During our earlier agitation in February this year, the BMC authorities on February 17 had sought two months’ time to sort out the issues of City Bus service and road repair work, but to no avail,” said Samantaray. The protestors called off their strike after receiving assurance in writing from the district administration that City Bus service would be launched to this area by May 15.
