College electioneering in full swing in B'swar

As the day for the college elections is drawing nearer, the anxieties among the contestants as well as the students in general are running high in Baleswar district, where Students’ Union elections would be held on September 29 in as many as about 40 colleges, the prominent being the Fakir Mohan College and the KKS Women’s College in the district headquarters here.

The fight is likely to be mainly between the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal and ABVP and in some cases the Student Congress playing a major role.

Although the students’ organisations, contestants and college authorities are claiming that the elections are being conducted as per the lyngdoh Commission guidelines, the norms are practically being hardly followed in their true spirit.

The contestants are leaving no stone unturned to get voters in their favour. Besides their own political parties, many aspirants are spending funds from their sources with a hi-tech campaigning being witnessed in many colleges. Almost all contestants are using Facebook, What’s App to have an interrupted communication with voters. Holding parties and treats and giving small gifts have become part of the campaigning.

“In our hostel, they are offering dinner to all inmates besides offering small gifts. It is a most momentous moment of student life. In fact, we enjoy it all,” said  a second year Science student.

However, in the KKS College several posts are going uncontested while in the FM College most of the posts are being fought keenly with at least three contestants each being in the fray for the posts of president, vice-president and secretary.
