An inter-college multilingual drama fest hosted here in association with the Fakir Mohan University has been a big crowd puller.

On Saturday evening two plays were staged by college students.  The one ‘To be continued’ by the students of Gayatri College of Pharmacy, Sambalpur and the other ‘Au Jane Radha’ by the students of Sovarampur, Baleswar were widely appreciated.

In the ‘To be continued’,  the artists tried to give a message that they (artists) have also responsibilities towards society while depicting characters and in the Au Jane Radha, the struggle of a widow in bringing up her children after the death of her husband has been delineated. She fights against all odds of society but never gives up.

The 9th edition of the drama festival involved 20 colleges from across the State under the auspices of Chandrabhaga, a cultural organization celebrating its silver jubilee.

“The inter college multilingual drama competition is being hosted by us in association with the Fakir Mohan University for last eight years. Besides enactment of plays, seminars and discussions would also be held on the literature and stage show,” informed Chandrabhaga secretary Sridev.

He added that Chandrabhaga has been holding various cultural programmes for last 24 years under the banner ‘Chandrabhaga Mahotsav.’

Also, it is organising a book fair for last 20 years. Eminent personalities of the literary world across the State participated in the seminars and workshops, he informed.

“Each evening a drama is staged by the troupes of different colleges. One can witness stage play in Hindi, Sanskrit, English, Kosali and Santhali etc. On the day of culmination, prizes would be distributed among the best categories adjudged by a jury panel,” informed Prahallad Mohanty, a key member of Chandrabhaga. About 30 publishing houses have come to the book fair while 45 stalls have been put up, he said. The Chandrabhaga fest, which began from December 28, was inaugurated by Padmashri Dr Tulasi Munda.
