Coal shortage in Talcher made up by dubious means?

PNS

last year, the MCl’s vigilance department had taken various e-initiatives in the lingaraj OCP mine including installation of CCTV cameras in the sidings for real time monitoring of coal quality as well as curbing the pilferage, which also happens in all mines.

But it is learnt that these initiatives are either intentionally not implemented or made to break down by the lingaraj management. All the three sidings of the lingaraj OCP were equipped with six CCTV cameras. From these cameras, the picture of the sidings is being directly observed by the e-surveillance department of the MCl headquarters.

Three weeks ago, a vigilance team had found shortage of 40,000 tonnes of coal in the MGR siding.

It is also known from internal sourced that the Odisha Stevedores ltd(OSl), an outsourcing contractor, is deployed in a patch to excavate  overburden. This overburden is thrown in pithead coal stock No-18 during night hours where it is mixed with old stock and afterwards transported to sidings.

Till the time, despite  taking any action, the lingaraj management was being given adequate opportunity to make up the shortage before the annual coal stock measurement in the first week of April.
