Following the death of a person allegedly due to eating stale food at the ongoing Baliyatra festival here on Friday, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Saturday launched a massive drive against the traders selling stale and adulterated food items at the fairgrounds.
The municipality staff seized over two quintals of stale food from different stalls and destroyed them. Reprimanding the erring food stall owners, the officials have also imposed penalties on them.
“The district administration will be requested not to allow these persons to set up their stalls at the Baliyatra grounds next year,” said a CMC officer.
Meanwhile, the city police after registering a case of unnatural death are investigating into the death of one Arabinda Sahoo of the city, who apparently fell sick immediately after consuming crab and prawn from a stall on Friday evening.
“He was immediately rushed to the SCB Medical College Hospital where he died late on Friday night,” informed the local Mangalabag police. Police said the cause of the death would be ascertained after getting the postmortem report.
