CM urged to compensate Koraput Hudhud losses

PNS

A citizens’ body of Koraput on Friday urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to immediately compensate all losses suffered by the people of undivided Koraput district due to the cyclone Hudhud.

Besides, the forum demanded that a long-term plan be made to support the people to earn their livelihood and thereby curtail apprehensions of starvation deaths of the affected people.“Innocent people of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Malkangiri have lost houses, cattle, crops and cereals. Their economic backbone has been broken due to the Cyclone Hudhud. They need immediate support,” a letter written to the Chief Minister mentioned.

Stating that a cyclone hitting Koraput is an unprecedented incident in the history of Koraput region, the body suggested that the MGNREGA work plans may be dovetailed to meet this unprecedented situation to restore both the public and private properties.“Special provisions have to be made in respect of IAY and Mo Kudia for the poorer sections of the communities who have faced loss of houses and cowsheds. Special assistance in form of seeds fertilizers and other inputs may be provided to the small and marginal farmers for both Rabi and Kharif crops,” it suggested further. These measures need to be taken on a war footing basis, the letter said.
