Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated a slew of projects and laid foundation-stones for the proposed ones at different places under Gopalpur and Brahmapur Assembly constituencies during his one-day visit to Ganjam on Saturday.
After arriving at Palur Hills temporary helipad at 11.15 am, the Chief Minister inaugurated the ‘Biju Patnaik Adarsha Vidyalaya’ at Palur under Rangeilunda block. Then he inaugurated the new HRD Center, new academic block and extension library buildings of the Berhampur University and laid foundation stones for various development projects under the Gopalpur Assembly constituency.
Then, the Chief Minister came here by helicopter and inaugurated the much-awaited Brahmapur-Gopalpur railway over bridge (ROB). The over-bridge would now help thousands of people to reach Gopalpur and other surrounding villages safely without waiting for trains to cross. Thereafter, Patnaik arrived at the Khallikote College ground where he inaugurated a band of new buildings such as District Tourist Office, newly built ITI, Berhampur Academic-cum-Workshop building, newly built Women’s Police Station, Medical police outpost and barrack, and a galaxy of other development projects constructed by the BeMC.
He also laid foundation stones for a myriad of development projects, including Hygenic Fish Market. He then distributed assets and benefits to the intended beneficiaries under various development schemes. Projects worth over Rs 200 crore were inaugurated by him in the two constituencies during his 90-minute stay.
A total of 72 platoons of police forces were deployed at different places to prevent any untoward incident during the CM visit. However, sheer traffic mismanagement was marked.
Patnaik was greeted by local MLA Dr RC Chyaupatnaik and BJD district president Dr Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi. Among others, party general secretary T Gopi, State Planning Board Member Rama Chandra Panda, local MP Siddhanta Mahapatra and senior leader Chandra Sekhar Sahu were present. Ahead of the CM visit, some BJP workers had reportedly been taken into preventive custody.
