After the ruling BJD wrested control of the Students’ Union ending Congress’ dominance at the Utkal University, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will attend the Students’ Union function on Thursday for the first time ever since he came to power about 15 years ago. Patnaik along with six of his Ministers and some MlAs will grace the occasion.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister is scheduled to lay foundation-stone for a girls’ hostel and a boys’ hostel in the campus. To make the CM’s visit successful, a meeting under the chairmanship of University Vice-Chancellor Ashok Das was held wherein Students’ Union president Rajesh Raj Swain, officials of Commissionerate police and many concerned officials attended.

“Our target is to make the Utkal University a brand in the higher education sector for which Government help is pertinent. We will apprise the Chief Minister about our need and at the same time will assure the Chief Minister of hard work from our side to reach the goal,” said the VC. An elated Students’ Union president Swain stated that the students at the campus are excited to have the Chief Minister as the chief guest.
