A team of the BJP leaders on Tuesday failed in their bid to meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat to place their demand for action against BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena for his alleged involvement in the contentious sex video and the ‘murder’ of engineering student Rishi.
The leaders alleged that they were not allowed to meet the CM as the latter is trying to shield the Mayor, who is a general secretary of the ruling BJD.
They claimed that they had all evidences to present to the CM about the Mayor’s alleged involvement in the shady incidents. The BJP team included Samir Mohanty, Prithwiiraj Harciandan, Bhrugu Baxipatra, party women wing State president Pravati Parida and lekhashree Samantsinghar.
Meanwhile, the BJP held road shows on the day for the Bhubaneswar Bandh from 6 am to 6 pm called by the party on Wednesday demanding action against the Mayor.
In another development, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) members reportedly hurled eggs at city Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena’s residence at Unit-1 hereon Tuesday morning over his alleged involvement in the murder of engineering student Asutosh Mohanty alias Rishi.
Four BJYM members holding BJP party flags hurled the eggs at Jena’s house standing in front of the gate. They continued the egg hurling for about 15 to 20 minutes and shouted slogans demanding the Mayor’s resignation and arrest.
The activists also hurled eggs at the nameplate, main gate and vehicle of the Mayor. Before leaving the spot, they dug a BJP party flag in front of the house.
“Four persons covering their faces came by two bikes like terrorists and hurled eggs at my house. Two of them hurled eggs while the rest made a video of the incident. They also abused me in filthy language,” said Jena. On the other hand, BJYM State president Tankadhar Tripathy denied the reports of egg hurling by BJYM activists. “The incident was an outcome of people’s anger against the Mayor. Some youths did it using the name of the BJP Yuva Morcha,” he said.
