Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reiterated the demand of stoppage of barrage constructions upstream the Mahanadi by the Chhattisgarh Government at the 12th Standing Committee meeting of the Inter-State Council (ISC) held in New Delhi on Saturday.

He also demanded constitution of a tribunal for resolving the Mahanadi water dispute at the earliest.

Besides the Mahanadi issue, Patnaik also demanded that the Polavaram project in Andra Pradesh be discontinued as it would affect people in its hinterland in Malkangiri district of Odisha.

The Chief Minister also demanded that the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy be raised to Rs 2,930 forthwith so that farmers can get an appropriate price for their produce.

Besides, Patnaik argued for strengthening of the country’s Federal fabric and promoting a better Centre-State relationship.
