For the first time in the State a new Department namely Social Justice and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the premises of Capital Hospital. This is for the first time that a department has been set up outside the State Secretariat.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday inaugurated the new department.
Earlier, the Department was attached with the Women and Child Development (W&CD) Department. W&CD Department Secretary Saswat Mishra has been appointed as the first Secretary of the new department. W&CD Secretary Saswat Mishra said the exclusive department would cater to the needs and easy access to the PWDs, third genders and senior citizens.
W&CD Minister Usha Devi informed that the department would later be shifted to its new building behind the Heads of the Department building which is now under construction.
