Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of a second campus of the Ravenshaw University here at Sector 13 of the satellite city of Abhinav Bidanasi. The new campus would come up over a sprawling area of 120 acres to ease the pressure on its crowded principal campus, which had been set up in 1868 as a collegiate.

In presence of university Vice-Chancellor PC Sarangi, Higher Education Minister PK Panigrahy and several other Ministers, the Chief Minister initiated the process for the much-needed campus of the university which has been christened as Mahanadi Campus.

Earlier in April this year, while attending the annual function of the University Students’ Union, the Chief Minister had announced a grant of Rs 30 crore for the new campus. The university authorities, however, had placed an initial demand of Rs 300 crore for the project.

During his three-hour visit to the city, the Chief Minister also laid foundation-stones and dedicated to public several development and welfare schemes, including four projects of the Health Department.

While inaugurating the Swasthya Bhawan and a new building of the Dental wing of the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Patnaik laid foundation-stones for two urban Community Health Centres.

Patnaik also inaugurated a building of Centre for Finishing Skills and Entrepreneurships developed by the Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTET) and dedicated to public a road built by the Works Department at Abhinav Bidanasi.
