After the Union Cabinet decided to ban the use of red beacons on the vehicles of dignitaries and Government officials from May 1, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday issued orders for removal of red beacon lights from vehicles of VIPs in the State immediately.
However, beacons would be allowed only on vehicles belonging to the police, Army, fire service and ambulances.
Notably, earlier, Chief Minister of Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath had decided against the use of the red beacons on their official cars.
