Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday called upon the police to conduct crime investigations “efficiently” and “effectively”. “Police have to be impartial, firm and prompt in handling crimes and criminals,” Patnaik, who also holds the Home portfolio, said while attending the concluding function of the 63rd State Police Duty Meet here.

The Chief Minister also reiterated his call to the police to investigate offences against women, children, dalits and adivasis on a priority basis. He asked the police to render their best professional services so that peace prevails in the State for the benefit of one and all.

Expressing happiness over the achievements of the State police in the spheres of increasing use of scientific aids in investigations and inculcation of scientific temper among policemen, Patnaik asked them to use the knowledge gained from this meet in their professional field.

Earlier in his inaugural address, Director General of Police Sanjeev Marik said the Police Duty Meet is an exercise to enhance the professional capability of police personnel.  This experience would certainly enable the police to discharge their duties more efficiently, he added.
