The inhabitants of Baripada municipality have demanded that the drains in various wards be cleared immediately. They said since most drains in the town have been lying in a state of neglect, they have turned dumping grounds for garbage and breeding centres of mosquitoes.
Due to negligence of the civic body authorities on sanitation and hygiene of the town, dirty water in the sewers is not flowing properly. Besides, garbage is dumped in the sewers as they are not lifted regularly from the roadsides by the civic body vehicles.
Mosquitoes, fleas and other flying insects have found an ideal breeding centre in the sewers and thus, during the ongoing summer, they have multiplied their number and created havoc for the denizens.Malarial and filarial diseases have now become common in most wards of the town.Further, it is noticed that only in one Ward No.5 of Baripada Municipality the anti-smoke arrangement is made available while it is not applied in other 27 wards. The people of other wards are disappointed with the apathy of the administration.
