In a heartrending incident, a Class-II student of the Sundaraba Ashram School under Sabarpalli gram panchayat in Gajapati district died under mysterious conditions on Saturday evening.
Shishir Raita, son of Sukadeb Raita of Anjarsahi, had been staying in the school hostel since last year. He had come to house for a few days and returned to the school on Friday. While playing in the school campus on Saturday evening, his neck was tightly winded with a silver wire and he became senseless. The school peon took him to the G Udayagri Government hospital where he died during treatment, said school authorities.
A pal of gloom descended in Anjarsahi following Shishir’s death.
Meanwhile, Sukadeb along with villagers staged an agitation in the hospital premises alleging that Shishir died due to negligence of school authorties and demanded a proper investigation be conducted and compensation of Rs 7 lakh given to the family.
They moved from the agitation only after intervention of local Tehsildar and police. After post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family on Sunday morning. Cremation was done in the village graveyard.
