City uses Puri Canal water in summer

The water being supplied to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation area comes from the Puri Main Canal during summers as the Kuakhai river dries up during the season every year.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Puspendra Singh Deo informed this in the State Assembly in response to a question of BJD MlA Priyadarshi Mishra on Friday.

“As the Kuakhai river dries up every summer, the Puri Main Canal releases 200 cusec water daily to the river. The water is reserved at the lifting centre in the river at Palasuni. Then the water is released to the treatment plant before being supplied to the city,” said the Minister. However, the Minister stated that 95 million litre water is supplied to the city daily from the Kuakhari water supply centre. The city has no problem to get adequate water, he said.
