General PH Division, Bhubaneswar Executive Engineer Dayanidhi Samal was arrested on April 2 by the Vigilance sleuths while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from complainant Alekh Chandra Majhi, a contractor.
Samal received the bribe for crediting Rs 1, 84,468 to Majhi’s account out of total bill amount of Rs 2, 64,381 towards execution of PH works in the Government quarters at Old lIC Colony, Badambadi, Cuttack.
Samal was forwarded to the court on April 3 from where he has been remanded to jail custody till April16.
In this connection, the Vigilance searched his residential building at CDA, Cuttack, two sisters-in-law’s house at Mahanadi Vihar
and Kalyani Nagar, Cuttack, father-in-law’s house at CDA, Cuttack and paternal house in Arilo village under Aul police station.
The total immovable and movable assets of Samal were calculated to be Rs 2, 22, 02,409.
