CIFA to women: Adopt pisciculture as business

PNS

The Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) has called upon the Women Self-help Groups (WSHGs) to adopt pisciculture as a business with modern aquaculture technologies developed by it for varieties of fish-food products.

“As a food commodity, fish can be processed into a wide array of products like fish pickle, fish-fillet and fish papad besides regular items. Thus, fish contributes to the food security and nutrition of both producers and rural and urban consumers. Women with help of modern technologies in aquaculture can generate enough revenue to sustain their families and save the society from fish scarcity,” an official release said.

It informed that a training programme for women on “Post harvest technologies of freshwater fish” would be organised in the CIFA campus for two days, July 18 and 19. Women from three different villages of Puri and Khordha districts will attend the programme. They will be trained in processing, preservation, post harvest value addition and packing of freshwater food fish.
