The Nikirai police on Sunday arrested six persons, including two women, for their alleged involvement in a chit fund case at Managalpur area.
The arrested were identified as Jibandip Rout, Sanjay Rout, laxmipriya Rout, Mitanjali Rout, Manoj Kumar lenka and Rabindra Beuria.
According to police sources, one Trilochan Rout, a peon of nationalized bank, had opened a chit fund company -Siddha Mahapurush Mini Society at Mangalpur in 1998.
Hundreds of gullible investors of Derabish block, being lured by promises of hefty returns, invested money in the society.
The society managed to collect more than Rs 4 crore this way. But, on May 4, 2014, Trilochana died.
As a result, managing director of the society laxmipriya Rout, who is the wife of deceased Trilochana, assured the investors to return their money and formed a subcommittee under the chairmanship of the local sarpanch of Mangalpur by submitting all the investors’ documents.
But when laxmipriya failed to return the money, a few investors went her home to demand money. laxmipriya, however, fled the area by locking her house.
Finding no other way, the investors filed an FIR against laxmipriya at Nikirai police station.
One Suprava Parida, an investor, also complained before the SP of Kendrapada recently.
