Mumbai-based model Preeti Bhatia, arrested by the CBI for her alleged complicity with the Artha Tatwa (AT) Group, a major player in the mega chit fund scam in Odisha, is likely to be granted bail soon. She is now lodged in the Jharpada jail here. Bhatia has been directed by the Supreme Court to deposit a hefty amount of Rs1,17,83,000 within six weeks with the Special CBI Court here. Only after the amount is deposited by her, would the court consider whether she would be granted bail or not, the apex court said. Bhatia was arrested by the CBI on October 10, 2014. She had first moved the High Court for bail, which had been rejected. Her counsel then had moved the Supreme Court on March 16 to seek bail for her.
