Thousands of duped chit fund depositors under the banner of the Arthika Sansthamanankadwara Kshatigrastanka Milita Manch on Wednesday held a massive demonstration before Parliament demanding fulfilment of their 11-point charter of demands.
“Crores of innocent, illiterate people have been duped by innumerable number of fraudulent companies taking advantage of defective Acts in Odisha and rest of the country.  This scam has disrupted the socio-economic relationships of the villages, clans and communities,” said Manch convenor Jayant Das.
later, a delegation led by CPI leader D Raja,  Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, Jayant Das,  Madhusudan Biswal and Anuradha Subudhi Das and rights activist Pradip Pradhan met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely and apprised him about the demands.
The demands included cent per cent refund of the assured amount to the duped depositors through amendment to existing laws, compensation to the family members of the chit fund victim who have committed suicide, enactment of stringent law to punish the owners of concerned non-banking financial institutions found guilty in the mega chit scam offenders and amend all the defective laws relating to Collective Investment Schemes.
