BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday suspended Chilika MLA Prashanta Kumar Jagdev from the party with immediate effect. Earlier in the day, Jagdev had allegedly assaulted a BJP leader, Niranjan Sethi, at Balugaon in Khordha district in full public view and also snatched the mobile phone of a journalist at the spot
Taking immediate action, Patnaik suspended the MLA from the BJD.Following the attack on him, Sethi had lodged a complaint with police. A video of the incident went viral on social media which showed the MLA manhandling and slapping the Balugaon Nagar BJP president in a busy street. As per Sethi’s allegations, while he was returning after having a discussion with the NAC Executive Officer, Jagdev, who was travelling by a car, stepped out and attacked him like a ‘Goonda’. Following the incident, BJP workers staged a dharna before the Balugaon police station demanding immediate arrest of Jagdev.
