PNS

A child specialist was assaulted and his clinic was ransacked by an enraged mob here on Sunday after an eight-month-old infant died during treatment in a private clinic near the Kendriya Vidyalaya Square.

The infant son of Gangadhar Mahalik of village Kamarpur under the Soro police station was suffering acute pneumonia. Initially, the parents had taken the child to the Kar Clinic at around 8 am. The clinic’s paediatrician Dr BK Kar, after examining and giving the child treatment referred him to the District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) here as his condition deteriorated. However, DHH doctors declared the child as received dead.

Following this, the parents alleged that the child had already died due to an overdose of medicine administrated by a nurse of the clinic before sending him to the DHH. And Dr Kar, even though knowing the child’s death, referred him to the DHH.

locals around the clinic joined the child’s parents and relatives and ransacked the clinic and assaulted the doctor and staffs. The Sahadevkhunta police after pacifying the mob took the doctor and a nurse along with them.

The police said a case was registered under Sections 304(a), 294 and 34 of IPC. Investigating officer Bhaktahari Patnaik said, “The doctor and the nurse, who allegedly committed negligence are detained. Further investigation is in progress.”
