Coming down heavily on the BMC’s decision to demolish the Nayapalli Kalyan Mandap here, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Bhubaneswar unit has urged Chief Secretary GC Pati to direct the civic body to withdraw the decision soon.
“The Nayapalli Kalyan Mandap is the oldest of its kind in the city. Thousands of families residing in Nayapalli, Nuasahi, Balitota, Shastri Nagar and nearby areas depend on this Kalayan Mandap for holding social functions like marriage, thread ceremony and birthday programme. The BMC has decided to demolish it in order set up its office without taking consent of locals. The BMC’s decision is going to serve no purpose rather it would create inconvenience to residents and traffic problem in the area,” a BJYM memorandum submitted to the Chief Secretary said.
The memorandum signed by BJYM, Bhubaneswar president Bishwaranjan Badajena too said that the BMC authorities have submitted false information to the State Government regarding utility of the Mandap. “The BMC has not submitted to you that it has taken the decision after consulting locals. But in reality, it has not taken opinion of locals,” Badajena said.
He argued that traffic problem would be manifold if proposed BMC office comes up there. “While the area is witnessing heavy rush now for increasing number of Government offices and banks, the area would be more congested if BMC office is built. Besides, it would create many problems for school students,” said Badajena.
Urging the Chief Secretary to visit the Kalyani Mandap area personally, Badajena threatened that locals would intensify their stir if the BMC doesn’t withdraw its decision at the earliest.
