In a major breakthrough, the Brahmapur Sadar police busted a chain snatching racket by arresting four persons from a secluded place in the city on Friday. However, the kingpin, Jaya Pradhan, is still at large.
The arrestees were identified as Siba Mohanty of Krishnapeta Street, Suraj Padhy of laxmi Nrusingha Street, Amit Dash of Balipada Road and Santosh Patro of Nimakhandi Nua Sahi.
The cops also seized a country-made gun, a knife, two motorcycles, five gold chains and two kg silver ornaments from their possessions.
Addressing a Press meet, Brahmapur SP Pinak Mishra said a series of snatching cases had been filed at different police stations in Ganjam district during the last one month.
The four accused were earlier arrested in several cases and released from jail on bail, he added.
He added efforts are being made to nab kingpin, Pradhan.
Among others, Sadar PS IIC Siba Mohanty, Chikiti SDPO Prakash Jena, Sadar SDPO Ashok Mohanty, BNpur PS IIC JK Patnaik and Gopalpur PS IIC Susanta Sahu were present.
