Chain snatchers to be nabbed soon: City cops

PNS

The Commissionerate police on Sunday claimed that they have identified the four culprits, who on Saturday night attacked a police havildar and a builder following a failed bid of chain snatching here at the busy Master Canteen square. A special squad has been formed to nab them.

“All the four culprits have been identified. They are hardcore criminals and belong to Cuttack area. Search operations are on to nab them,” said DCP Nitinjit Singh.

According to sources, a city-based builder Debabratta Dhir along with his wife on Saturday evening had come to buy jewelleries from a shop near here.

After buying, while the couple was going to board their car, which had been parked near the shop, all of sudden, four bike borne goons tried to snatch a necklace from the neck of Dhir’s wife. However, Dhir swooped down on one accused after overpowering him. In the meantime, havildar Sukulal Murmu, who was on duty near the jewellery shop, rushed to the spot and overpowered another accused.

To escape from the spot, the miscreants soon shot at Murmu, who sustained bullet injury in his left thigh and at Dhir who sustained injury on head and decamped, though they failed to snatch away the necklace. Both the builder and the havildar now are undergoing treatment at a private hospital here, said sources.
