The NDA Government at the Centre and the BJD Government in Odisha have failed to churn out skilled workers through training and employment. The Centre’s Startup India and investment programmes have failed miserably, triggering disappointment among youths and students, said Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) Odisha branch president Dr Rama Chandra Khuntia on Sunday, addressing INTUC’s executive committee meeting.
Khuntia said in the Centre and the State Government corporations and industries regular appointments have been abolished and contractual workers have been engaged in low pay. On the other hand, after taking profits of Rs 2,834 crore and dividend of Rs 600 crore, the NDA Government disinvested 10 per cent in Nalco and now is planning to privatise it. This has surprised the people of Odisha. The INTUC has strongly opposed the move, he said.
The Union Government has fixed minimum wages of Rs 10,000 per month. The State also should fix minimum wages of Rs 10,000 per month, take adequate steps for treatment and social security of construction workers and the workers engaged in crushers and cement industries, he demanded. Many DlO and labour Inspector posts are vacant in the labour Department, demanded Khuntia.
