Centenarian casts vote in K'pada

PNS

Setting an example for the so called educated people staying in the capital city Bhubaneswar which recorded the poorest turnout of only 40 per cent on Thursday’s polls, 103-year-old Gandhian Purusottam Nayak exercised his franchise at the Kakata Mangala Upper Primary school polling booth in Kendrapada town.

The freedom-fighter Nayak said he has been casting votes in all the elections since 1952. The old age has not stopped him from voting. “I have been voting in every election without a break. As a citizen of the country, I vote to keep the democratic spirit alive. My call to the younger generations is to stick to this principle to exercise their rights and duties as true citizens as each vote is precious,” said Nayak. Stating that this could be his last vote, Nayak said his health is deteriorating by the day.
