The Jajpur Town police on Monday arrested four motorbike lifters and seized two stolen bikes from them, said Jajpur Town police station IIC AR Mohanty. Sagar Swain of Saipur was also arrested on the charge of purchasing a stolen bike.
“On Saturday last, a bike of Sibaram Swain was stolen from the office of district Collector at Jajpur Town. The footages of CCTV near the Collector’s office helped us arrest the bike lifters,” said Mohanty.
On Monday, they were produced in the court of Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM), Jajpur. Court rejected their bail applications and remanded them to jail custody.
The police suspect the involvement of many garage owners, officials of State Transport Corporation, regional transport officials and other gang members in many bike theft cases.
In some garages, they easily change the number plates and colours of the vehicles in clear nexus with the garage owners, the police said.
